ABOUT THE ROLE
The Associate Director, Legal and Compliance reports directly to the Director of Legal and Compliance and leads and controls legal activities within RMIT Vietnam. The Associate Director, Legal and Compliance, gives advice and services to the management of the campus to ensure the effective implementation of university policies, compliance with external legislative requirements and to support the effective operation of the university's primary activities and management processes. The role is responsible for leading the legal and compliance team, working closely with RMIT University in Australia, including implementing the RMIT Group compliance framework. The duties outlined in this job description are not exhaustive and may be adjusted, and additional duties assigned, to meet evolving business needs, including providing coverage in other areas as required.
Leadership
- Develop and maintain a culture of integrity and high performance in the Legal and Compliance department.
- Develop and maintain a culture of continuous improvement, focusing on increasing the efficiency of both current and future processes.
- Build strong networks and relationships with key internal stakeholders, including the General Director as a trusted advisor and the Executive Director, Governance, Legal and Strategic Operations (Melbourne).
- Develop, foster, and maintain effective relationships with all relevant external stakeholders and organizations.
Legal process and policy
- Ensure relevant policies and guidelines relating to compliance and legal services are in place and up to date.
- Evaluate on a regular basis the effectiveness of relevant processes and controls, and drive changes as necessary.
- Provide leadership in ensuring compliance with relevant policies and guidelines. Also develop, oversee and communicate those related compliance procedures to certainly aligned with business objectives.
- Lead on developing knowledge throughout the organization to ensure compliance and high-quality delivery of service.
Compliance
- Lead the implementation of the University’s Compliance Framework in Vietnam.
- Working with the Associate Director, Policy, Compliance and Contracts (Melbourne) establish and maintain the compliance obligations register at RMIT Vietnam.
- Provide advice and counsel to colleagues in relation to compliance matters.
- Report on the effectiveness of the University’s compliance management systems in line with University reporting.
ABOUT YOU (KEY SELECTION CRITERIA)
- LL.B and/or LL.M. from a law school, preferably a foreign university
- Member of a local bar association.
- At least 7-10 years of working experience in international law firms/ corporation.
- Proven experience in managing large-scale, complex legal projects.
- Full comprehension of the influences of the external environment for the organization.

ENGLISH PROFICIENCY
English is the language of teaching and communication at RMIT Vietnam. For this role, the minimum requirement is IELTS General 7.0 and with no band less than 6.5 (or equivalent).
