About This Opportunity
This is an excellent opportunity to take the lead on property-related insurance matters across one of Australia’s leading universities. As the Principal Insurance Officer, you’ll play a key role in protecting UQ’s extensive asset portfolio and supporting the University’s ambitious infrastructure and operational goals.
In this specialist role, you’ll provide expert advice on property, contract works, and motor vehicle insurance, oversee claims and policy management, and act as the key liaison between UQ’s Property and Facilities Division, insurers, and brokers for these policies. You’ll also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance the University’s property-related insurance and risk management processes.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Provide expert advice and support to UQ staff on property, contract works, and motor vehicle insurance matters, and support renewal of those policies.
Oversee and manage property-related insurance claims, and cover for University assets and construction projects.
Act as key liaison between Insurance Services, Property and Facilities and UQ’s insurers and brokers, ensuring timely and accurate communication and the effective conduct of risk engineering surveys and other insurance-related processes to improve UQ’s property risk profile.
Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen UQ’s property-related insurance and risk management processes.
There may be the occasional requirement to travel to other University campus locations in South East Queensland.

About You
Brings a solid understanding of property, contract works and motor vehicle insurance, with the ability to interpret complex policy wordings.
Demonstrates strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a talent for improving processes and driving operational efficiency.
Confident managing insurance claims and liaising with diverse stakeholders across a large, complex organisation.
Excellent communicator who builds productive relationships with internal clients, insurers, and brokers.
Highly organised and self-motivated, with the ability to prioritise competing demands and meet deadlines.
Holds a relevant tertiary qualification and several years of experience in insurance or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training (with risk management experience desirable).
Experience in a higher education or similarly complex environment is highly regarded.
The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia, criminal check and an education check.
