About the role
As the Communications Manager – External Affairs and Media, you will play a leading role in engaging with the media to connect RMIT with industry, government and community audiences. Reporting to the Senior Communications Manager, Corporate Affairs and Media, you will be an experienced and trusted media advisor ready to play a key role to promote, position and protect the RMIT brand.
In this role you will work closely with internal stakeholders across the organisation to identify and amplify stories that bring the strategic priorities of the University to life, using strong media relationships to maximise coverage.
The role helps build media engagement capability by providing formal and informal coaching and training to academics and leaders across RMIT.
To be successful in this position, you'll have:
Experience in a highly effective external communications function, working with media and managing risk and reputational issues.
Strong knowledge of the news cycle and excellent news sense.
Experience in communications planning, delivery and measurement that contributed to strategic organisational objectives.
Experience building and maintaining strong working relationships with key media representatives across all platforms.
