The successful appointees will undertake delivery of tutorials with associated preparation, student consultation and marking in first year, second year, third year and postgraduate economics courses.
This position is based at the St Lucia Campus and successful appointees must be available to attend on campus.
Delivery or presentation of tutorials
Tutorial means any educational delivery described as a tutorial in a course or unit outline, or in an official timetable issued by the employer. Casual Academics in the School of Economics are required to deliver or present a tutorial (or equivalent delivery through other than face-to-face teaching mode) of a specified duration and relatedly provide non-contact duties in the nature of preparation, directly-associated and contemporaneousmarking (see Enterprise Agreement), and student consultation. These non-contact duties will be directly associated with, and arising from, the delivery of a specific tutorial.
Responsibilities as a Casual Academicmay include (but are not limited to):
Tutoring students in face to facedelivery mode.
Providing support to students, including, consultation, and assessment feedback.
Undertaking marking of assessment tasks, as directed by course coordinators, with hours for marking to be confirmed by School Administration staff prior to commencing marking.
Maintaining, and where possible improving, the quality of tutorials, as measured through evaluation instruments to meet industry and educational standards.
Providing tutorial support for other positions during planned or unexpected absences.
Understanding and applying University Rules relevant to teaching and learning practice.
Maintaining class participation and attendance lists as required.
Maintaining a high level of performance on evaluations by students.

Candidates enrolled in the BECON or BAFE must have completed at least 10 units (5 courses) of UQ ECON-coded courses by July 2025and achieved a GPA of 6.0 or better in economics courses. Candidates enrolled in the BPPE, the Bachelor of Arts (Economics Major), the Bachelor of Business Management (Business Economics Major), Bachelor of Commerce (Finance Major), or the Bachelor of Advanced Business (Finance Major) must have completed at least 6 units (3 courses) of UQ ECON-coded courses by July 2025and achieved a GPA of 6.5 or better in economics courses. Candidates enrolled in the Economics Masters program must have completed at least one semester full time of postgraduate study including 8 units (4 courses) of ECON-coded courses and achieved a GPA of 6 or better.
UQ PhD in Economics candidates are encouraged to apply and do not need to have studied previously at UQ to be eligible.

What we can offer
This is a Casual position. As such, there is no firm advance commitment to ongoing or indefinite work. The casual hourly rate is $55.36 per hour, plus super.
